YOUR 2025 BIKE PREP GUIDE: TUNE UP AND ROLL OUT

Mountain biker inflating an MTB tire with a Lezyne floor pump in a beautiful green setting, preparing for the upcoming season as outlined in the 2025 New Year's Bike Prep Guide.

Before you start fine-tuning your legs for the upcoming season, let’s be sure the rig is in top shape. A quick wash and tune-up are hopefully all your bike needs to get the year started. If you’re not the hands-on type, your local bike shop is more than happy to help!

Check out our interactive locators to find verified shops in your area: U.S. Dealer Locator or Worldwide Pro Shops.

Now let’s check for wear-and-tear:

  • Tires: Start by inflating them to your desired pressure. Aside from examining the tread, be sure to look for any cracks or if the bead is starting to show through. Get them replaced if necessary! If you’re running tubeless tires, it might be time for some fresh sealant.

If your tubeless setup isn’t holding air, we offer plenty of repair options to get you back on the road or trail. For example, our Tubeless Pro Plugs provide a solution to repair damaged tubeless tires and extend their life by many miles. Additionally, our Digital Check Drive is a fantastic portable, accurate tire pressure gauge so you can always maintain your ideal inflation.

  • Chain: A worn chain not only affects performance, but it can also quickly wear down your entire drivetrain. Our handy Chain Gauge is a simple way to measure chain wear and also aid in replacing it. Finally, make sure it’s clean and well lubed. And be sure to check out the rest of our chain repair tools for additional servicing.

  • Nuts and Bolts: Most bikes are constructed of specialty materials which require precision assembly. It’s vital that the hardware holding everything together is tightened to the manufacturer’s torque specifications. When asked what his most important tool was, noted mountain bike legend Cedric Gracias was quick to declare it’s his trusty Torque Drive. So let’s make sure the bolts throughout your bike are clean and properly secured.

  • Pumps: Hey and don’t forget all our bike pumps are rebuildable! Browse our rebuild kits and check out our support site for FAQs, rebuild instructions and troubleshooting.

What else? A few other things to run through before tackling 2025:

    • Replace any brake or derailleur cables if they haven’t been replaced in a few months.
    • Check your brake pads. Fresh brake pads improve performance and reduce the possibility of causing rotor or rim damage. Or not stopping!
    • Go through your bike’s contact points and make sure everything is properly lubed and greased. Be sure to use carbon paste if you’re running a carbon frame or components.
    • Check the cleats on your shoes and replace them if they’re beat up.
    • It’s always a good idea to examine your helmet. Looks for any cracks or deformities. Many bicycle helmets are “one time use” after a hard crash. Fortunately, most helmet companies offer crash-replacement discounts.
    • Bearings: Take your bike apart—bottom bracket, headset, hubs, suspension: Check the bearings for smoothness. If they’re gritty, either clean them or replace them. Or rebuild them if possible.

      LEZYNE 2025 MOTIVATIONAL CHALLENGES

In our Ultimate 2025 New Year’s Cycling Guide we also want to share with you five suggested challenges if you’re looking for a way to stay motivated this year!

      1. Explore your backyard: Once a month set out to find a new road or trail in your area. We find this to be a great way to keep your rides exciting and adventurous.
      2. Find a new event or personal challenge: Check your calendar and plug in an event you’ve never done. Or just invent your own challenge. This is a great way to keep you excited to ride every day and always have something to look forward to throughout the year.
      3. Support a local youth cycling group: It’s always great to connect with the next generation of cyclists. Whether donating or volunteering, supporting youth cycling is key to the growth and wellbeing of our two-wheeled passion. It’s also a great way to remind us of our youth and why we still love to ride our bikes!
      4. Cycling infrastructure: You can help your community by volunteering with trail work or working with your city to improve your town’s bicycle infrastructure. It takes all of us to keep cycling safe, fun and accessible!
      5. Commute more: This one’s simple! Skip the gas pedal and spin your pedals instead. It’s healthier, better for the environment and the fresh air helps clear the mind in between work or running errands.

      FIVE TIPS FROM LEZYNE

In the Ultimate 2025 New Year’s Cycling Guide, we share actionable advice to help you ride smarter, stay motivated and make this your most rewarding cycling year yet.

      • Get a coach or mentor! Ask any pro cyclist and they’ll tell you how important it is to have a personal coach. Even if you have the best equipment, training schedule and support network, having someone you can trust and openly communicate with is extremely powerful.
Nobody is perfect and being able to comfortably and confidentially discuss your concerns or weaknesses allows you to easily work through any shortcomings and keep things realistic—putting your mind at ease.
Even if you’re not racing, finding a solid mentor will help you accomplish your biggest cycling challenges and goals.
      • Relax and don’t overthink everything. It’s easy to get lost in your thoughts. Especially with the amount of time we spend pedaling in solitude.
There’s always work, chores and/or family on the mind. Instead, when riding, try to tune that out and focus on your breathing.
Think of all the positive things in your life instead. Be happy that you’re out on a ride. Life will be there when you’re back. Relax!
      • Preparation. This is an obvious one, but being prepared reduces so much stress. And stress can directly affect performance. Plan well in advance for your next event. Make sure everything is ready, so come race day all you have to think about is the race.
      • Continue to learn. No matter how experienced you are, there’s always small details we can learn. Keep an open mind, ask questions and watch other cyclists you respect—young or old. Knowledge is power, and power leads to better results and more enjoyable experiences on the bike.
      • Extra Credit! Add in some extra credit this year! There’re so many ways we can improve as cyclists off the bike: Nutrition, core training, breathing techniques and meditation, cross training, stretching, yoga, swimming, rest and recovery, organizing, planning, strength training... etc! Mix in some extra credit this year for a more enjoyable 2025!

        HEAR IT FROM OUR AMBASSADORS

Kickstart your year with inspiration from the pros! In the Ultimate 2025 New Year’s Cycling Guide, our ambassadors share their wisdom and tips to help you conquer your cycling goals with confidence and enthusiasm.

        • Cedric Gracia: “Always think positive! After hard days, sooner or later come the good days.”
        • Geoff Gulevich: “2024 taught me to enjoy the rides with my friends more, rather than focusing on getting the perfect shot all the time. Being present and enjoying the company at hand is why we do this.”
        • Eric Porter: “My goal for 2025 is to actually follow a consistent training plan for the first time in my life, haha, I've always been all over the place since I love riding so many different types of bikes and terrain. I think it'll help with overall fitness for all types of rides and also really benefit the big crazy rides I love to do!”
        • Alison Tetrick: “My main goal for 2025 is to continue amplifying the community impact of cycling by making the sport more accessible and inclusive, helping more people experience the freedom and joy it brings. Don't forget an AMT bandana for #morekidsonbikes. With an extensive gravel event schedule and visits to bike shops around the globe, I'm excited for the opportunity to ride alongside YOU somewhere in the world! Let's make it another great year on two wheels. If we are riding bikes, we are doing it right!”
