GIF - Chebici Cycling Team is a Finnish elite level amateur consisting of 10 riders aged from 19 to 35. Riders for the on going 2017 season are the following:
Of the riders, Tommi Martikainen is a former pro cyclist (2006-2010) and multiple time national championship medalist. He was also representing Finland in the 2016 Rio paralympic games as a tandem pilot for the Beijing 2008 silver medalist Jarmo Ollanketo. Tommi is also the most succesful cycling coach in Finland at the moment. His cyclists include the Cervelo-Bigla rider and 2016 world championships bronze medalist (road race) Lotta Lepistö, Lepistö’s team mate Clara Koppenburg, the 2017 national champion Matti Manninen of the Team Fixit.no as well as a few of his GIF-Chebici team mates and he is also one of the coaches for the Team Novo Nordisk pro cycling team.
Jarkko Niemi is the 2012 national champion (road race), has multiple other national championships medals and races with the national team since his junior years. Lauri Seppä has developed a lot in the past few years and is now a regular member of the national team and scored a 6th place at the nationals a few weeks ago. Arttu Malviniemi, Petter Mattsson Marco-Tapio Niemi and Jesse Uusiperhe have all been regular members of the junior, U23 and elite national teams as well.
2017 is the second season of the teams existence. In 2016 the team got already multiple podiums at the national championships races, inclunding 2nd and 3rd places for Petter Mattsson and Tommi Martikainen in the road race and 2nd place for Tommi Martikainen in the time trial. This year the podium avoided us, but Rasmus Eriksson placed 7th in bot ITT and road race and Lauri Seppä 6th in the road race. With a good roster of riders and a mix of youth and experience, the GIF-Chebici is already now one of the strongest and most visible teams in finnish national level racing.
