PRO MOUNTAIN BIKER BECKY GARDNER TALKS SUSTAINABILITY AND LEZYNE'S ECO PACKAGING
When it comes to sustainability in the bike industry, actions speak louder than words. Pro mountain biker Becky Gardner knows all about this. With over 20 years of riding under her belt, her passion for the sport also includes advocating for conscious consumer choices that help protect her terrain.
“Hey guys, this is Becky Gardner, pro mountain biker. I've been riding bikes for over 20 years,” she introduces herself, bringing the experience and credibility of a true veteran of the sport.
For Becky, being aware of the brands she supports goes hand in hand with choosing sustainability. “I think most people that do outdoor sports and enjoy the outdoors are mindful of what we can do to make the environment stay around and be healthy,” she says.

“Looking into the companies that you buy from and making sure that they're actually doing something for the environment and actually researching proper packaging is key,” Becky stresses. “Because a lot of people just put a logo that says it's green, and it's not.”
One company she believes is doing it right? Lezyne. A cycling accessories brand known for precision engineering, and its eco-friendly packaging.
“I think the new Lezyne packaging is great,” she says. “I think that it's an easy way to be sustainable without even having to think about it, because they did all the work. You just buy it!”
Lezyne’s packaging revamp includes compostable bags and cardboard-like materials made with bamboo—a fast-growing, renewable resource. But for Becky, it’s not just about packaging. She knows sustainability goes deeper.
“The cool thing about Lezyne is they own their factory, so they have a lot of control over how efficient things are, how things are made,” she explains. “They can control exactly what they're putting out to make things more green.”
Sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. Support brands that are doing the work behind the scenes. Choose long-lasting products. And of course, embrace the lifestyle.
As Becky puts it: “Shop sustainably, get outside, drive less.”
Simple advice from a pro rider who's keeping it fun, and keeps it green.
